‘Q&A: ‘Ya Gotta Step Up’

Fox talk show host Bill O’Reilly’s new book takes aim at the culture war —as he defines it.

O’Reilly lays out the culture war, as he sees it —not the conventional liberal/conservative split, but a battle between traditionalism and secularism —and issues a clarion call to Americans to wake up and take a stand.

I did it because I don’t think most Americans understand the intensity of the culture war going on. Because it is not accurately being reported in the media, there is no way for people to know the struggle behind the scenes for their hearts and minds. So it’s more of an investigative book, and I just thought everybody should know, really, what’s going on.

Because most of media is in the secular- progressive camp.

The struggle in the culture war is between traditionalists who believe the United States is a noble nation —we make mistakes, not everything is perfect here, but at heart the country is a good country. Traditionalists are challenged by secular progressives (SPs) who believe the United States is a flawed country which needs a dramatic overhaul. This is the culture-war struggle.

Most of the media —I put the number at about 75 percent —are firmly in the secular- progressive camp. They don’t want to really let the folks out there —because all the polls show that most folks are traditionalist —know that what is happening. So therefore it isn’t reported.

No, it’s not. I think every American has the right to decide what’s moral and immoral within the bounds of the law.
