Houston Will Force 150 Sex Businesses to Move or Close

A federal court has cleared the way for Houston to crack down on 150 sex businesses, including topless clubs, modeling studios and adult bookstores.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Atlas recently ruled the city can enforce a 1997 ordinance that bans the businesses from locating within 1,500 feet of schools, parks and churches.

“Now is the time for them to move,” Mayor Bill White told The Associated Press. “We’re going to enforce the law.”

Kris Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Katy Independent School District, said the ordinance is an important safeguard for children.

“Schools really applaud the effort of the city to maintain quiet, safe neighborhoods,” she told The Associated Press.
