Wisconsin Abortion Rate at Record Low

Wisconsin’s abortion rate dropped for the third straight year to its lowest number ever and is nearly half the national rate, according to the report by the Department of Health and Family Services.

According to The Associated Press, there were 9,580 abortions in the state last year. Abortion statistics have been kept since 1974.

While Sue Armacost, legislative director for Wisconsin Right to Life, credited the decline to an increase in the number of pro-life young people, education efforts and laws restricting abortion.

In particular, she pointed to a law that requires abortion-minded women to receive more information about their pregnancy and wait at least 24 hours before the procedure can be done.
